A beautiful interiors store opened in Westend in July. VINDUE was set up by four young creatives: designer Phaedra Richter, upholsterer Anastasia von Spreti, and furniture designers and builders Sabrina Haugg and Leo Weber.
Phaedra and Anastasia have known each other for years. Together, they wanted to design and upholster furniture – both old and new pieces. And when Phaedra met Sabrina, a furniture designer who happened to be carrying her portfolio, at a birthday party, the idea was set in stone.
“I live in Westend and love it here”, Phaedra says, explaining the choice of location. “We don’t want to follow the crowd by setting up shop in the hip districts, and besides, we wanted to support this wonderful part of town – helping breathe a little more life to it, and not just supporting the city centre. Westend’s different from other districts – it’s multicultural and colourful – and the rents aren’t through the roof – small stores have a real shot at survival.”
They sell a range of products – from candles and Scandinavian-inspired minimalist nightstands to warm Anatolian cushions and colourful Turkish table mats. Some of the products are from well-known brands such as Ferm Living and Madam Stoltz, but others are handmade by the four founders themselves.
“We mostly sell products from brands that complement our own designs. We do a lot with Scandinavian patterns, and our furniture is Scandi-inspired, so it made sense to sell Scandinavian accessories”.
They have an online shop, but a trip to their store is well worth it – it’s there that you can really see how beautiful the fabrics are, and how cosy the little store is.
