Next week in Munich – Wye Oak, The KVB & July Talk

After clearing up after the Organic Dance Festival at the weekend, the Zenith will be playing host to The National on Monday night. Tickets are available for 40 €, and support comes from St. Vincent.

Portland’s folk rockers The Builders and the Butchers are at the Kranhalle on Tuesday, as part of their current German/Swiss tour. They’re a little bit too rocky for my tastes, but I am enjoying the support band’s music – Turbo Perfecto. Tickets cost 15 € on the door.

My old university favourite, Paul Weller, is at the Circus Krone on Wednesday and if tickets weren’t upward of 40 €, I’d be very tempted to go.

Lovely Baltimore indiefolkers Wye Oak (who’ve previously performed a delightful Hauskonzerte set) are at Strom on Thursday. They released Shriek their fourth studio album in April, and here’s the deliciously Lynchian video for Glory, the first single from the new album:

London dark wave duo The KVB are playing at the Kranhalle on Thursday. It’s an audio-visual project that combines shoegaze guitars, minimal synth and hypnotic beats. Tickets cost 11 € in advance and they’re on at 8:30pm.

From June 6-9, Munich’s celebrating Africa at the Theresienwiese. The Afrika-Tage focus on music, craft and entertainment for kids. I’m particularly looking forward to the African bazar with a beer garden (featuring African wines), musical instruments, fabrics and furniture. Entrance costs 8 € and further information about opening times etc. is available here.

Also on Friday, the hugely talented pianist (and owner of the Provisorium) Wanja Belaga is playing at the Schauberg youth theatre at Elisabethplatz.

On Saturday, jump on your bikes for the Radlnacht, which will start at 8:30pm at Odeonsplatz. The city shuts off the roads for the 12km event, meaning you can explore Munich by night on your two wheels without fear of mad traffic.

Toronto band July Talk are at the Atomic Cafe on Whitsunday – and as the Monday’s a public holiday and no one has to get up early, the Atomic’s hosting a party afterwards with Team Trouble.
