Next week in Munich – Joan Baez, Euro 2012, Kino am Olympiasee

If you’ve been living in a hole and hadn’t heard, Euro 2012 kicks off (pun intended) on 8th June, running until 1st July. Plenty of public viewings have been organized, and if the weather picks up, it’s a great excuse (as if we need one) to head to a beer garden and enjoy some football banter.

Alas, not all of us are die-hard football fans, and thankfully for those of us, there are still a few non-football events going on instead.

On Monday, June 11, the veritable Joan Baez will perform in the Philharmonie – tickets are sold-out, but if you read this in time and are desperate to see her, there are tickets still available for her performance this Friday, 8th June at the Kloster Benediktbeuern, south-west of Bad Tölz. If you have a ticket for the Philharmonie show, I’m incredibly envious.

On Wednesday, 13th June, you can enjoy another Public Viewing. Let’s hope spirits post-game are higher this time! Wednesday is the Germany v Holland Euro 2012 match, and you can enjoy it with thousands of others at the Olympiapark – entrance costs 6 € (the same goes for the Germany v Denmark match on the 17th).

And while the Olympiapark will be packed on Wednesday, the Kino am Olympiasee will perhaps be a little quieter – leaving you to enjoy Snow White in peace (with perhaps the odd background cheer). If you haven’t yet managed to see the French hit Ziemlich Beste Freunde, you really should – it’s a tender film and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Thankfully, it’s showing on 16th June at the Kino am Olympiasee – take a picnic and enjoy!

The week is rounded up with football – and if you really can’t stand any more, you can check out Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream in the Residenz theatre on both Saturday and Sunday evening. The play will be performed in German, and I’m intruiged to see how Shakespeare translates to German.
