***EDIT: STROKE Art Fair has been cancelled due to the Bavarian State’s decision to ban events with more than 1,000 paricipants from 11.03.2020 until 19.04.2020 #coronavirus***
Last May, there were rumblings that the STROKE Art Fair at the Alte Akademie was to be the very last one, after ten years of the fair. Thankfully, that wasn’t the case, and it’s now entering its eleventh year.
This year, STROKE is back at the Praterinsel – from 19-22 March. Tickets cost €13 and for that, you get to discover some of the best young artists producing work right now.
The full list of participating artists is available here (and some are even producing “live” art throughout the duration of the fair), but I have listed some of my favourites below:
Miriam Frank
Munich illustrator and tattoo artist Miriam Frank produces some of the most glorious tattoo art I’ve ever come across, and I would love one of her illustrations. I actually already own some of her wooden jewellery produced in collaboration with Barcelona brand MateriaRica, and she has a distinct style that I adore.
Carl Smith
Berlin-based American artist Carl Smith creates thought-provoking mixed media art that is super cosmopolitan. He studied in New York before moving to Berlin, and cityscapes are prevalent in his work.
Ute Roim
Ute Roim uses acrylics on canvas or acrylics on her own, beautiful photographs to produce her fantastic work. I particularly love her photos of people.
Katja Gehrung
Utterly gorgeous photos, often in black and white, of people.
