Did you indulge in too many beers at Oktoberfest? Have you been spending your Saturdays watching Bayern München games instead of in museums? All can be remedied this weekend – it’s time for the Lange Nacht der Museen.
Around ninety museums take part in the annual event, opening their doors from 7pm to 2am so that you can experience a Stiller-esque Night at the Museum. Entrance costs 15 €, and gives you free travel on the MVG shuttle buses for the evening.
Both established Munich museums and lesser-known institutions are opening their doors for the evening, from Haus der Kunst and the Pinakotheken to the fire service museum and MUCA.
Of particular interest: Die Neue Sammlung – The Design Museum (Barerstraße) is hosting a talk with media artist Tamiko Thiel at 7pm. Then there are several talks on the White Rose movement to be held at the LMU memorial (all in German), and, in a similar vein, the Stadtmuseum is hosting tours titled “National Socialism in Munich”.
One of the sweetest ways to spend the evening is at the botanical gardens – they normally close early evening, but they’ll be open until 2am to let you wander through the greenhouses.
