There seems to be loooads going on in Munich at the moment, and I feel a bit bad that I’ve not written anything about it for ages (broken laptop, vacation). Anyway, this week is packed full of great gigs. Here goes:
The week starts with Estonian band Ewert and the Two Dragons playing their very catchy indie folk at the Muffathalle. Tickets are just 18 € on the door, and they’re definitely good for some light-hearted melodies to improve your Monday mood.
Cosmo Sheldrake is at the Orangehouse on Tuesday. I saw him support Johnny Flynn last year, and he was excellent. Tickets are still available for 12 € and I absolutely love this song:
The always impressive Calexico are playing a sold-out show at the Muffathalle on Tuesday, and I’m super jealous of you if you have a ticket.
Next door, Watford sisters The Staves are playing in the Ampere on Tuesday. Their latest album, If I Was, was produced by Bon Iver frontman Justin Vernon, and the influence is clear. The album’s gorgeous.
Hamburg-based band Pool are at Milla on Wednesday, with tickets costing 18 € on the door. They’re not really my cup of tea, but they’re pretty popular in Europe at the moment, so I thought I’d give them a mention:

The Make or Break Festival is on at the Feierwerk from Thursday to Sunday, featuring upcoming bands, mostly from the area. It’s completely free and there’s something for everyone – from drum’n’bass, to techno, hip-hop, punk and indie.
The Muffathalle’s the place to be on Thursday for a good dose of melancholy. Singer-songwriter Scott Matthew’s playing, and if you haven’t listened to his new album This Here Defeat yet, it’s well worth a listen. So sad and so lovely.
On Friday, you can combine culture and partying at the Pinakothek der Moderne. #ARTisFACTION combines art and graphic design with electronic music. KONG DJs Baal and Glaskin will be on the decks, and the party continues in KONG afterwards. Sadly, tickets for the event at the Pinakothek der Moderne are sold-out, but head to the after-party if you can.
If you need a new bike, head to Backstage on Friday and Saturday for Munich’s annual bike flea market, with both new and old bikes on offer. The market opens from 4pm-8pm on Friday and from 10am-5pm on Saturday.
Also on Saturday and Sunday, the Stijl Designmarkt is on at the Praterinsel. If you haven’t entered to win guestlist spots yet, send me an email before Tuesday!
US musician and human rights activist Chadwick Stokes is playing at Strom on Saturday. The gig kicks off at 9:30pm and is followed by a party with DJ Albert Royal.
Wanda are at Backstage on Sunday, and I’m very much looking forward to the show. It’s sold-out, so if you’ve got tickets, get there early to get a good spot.
Have a good week, folks!
