My friend Catherine recently announced a vintage shopping trip around the Glockenbachviertel. She had done her research, noting down half a dozen stores around the Glockenbachviertel that we had to visit. And boy, what gems they are!
We started in the Utzschneiderstr., close to the Schrannenhalle. Alexa Schab’s store is full of gems from the fifties onwards. She’s quite a character – warm, bubbly and passionate about vintage fashion. Her store is the place to come to for film, theatre and TV costume and set designers needing props. Cath immediately found a beautiful green floral silk dress from the fifties, and I was charmed by the vintage dirndls (not that I need another).

I am now the proud owner of a beautiful forties style dress made from eighties fabric thanks to Maison Chi Chi. Nina Riedel, aka Chi Chi, used to be a lifestyle editor. She’s also a burlesque dancer, dancing as Chi Chi Bouvet, and her love of retro fashion combined with her expertise in the field led her to setting up Maison Chi Chi around a year ago. The store was full of very high-quality, couture vintage dresses and blouses and Chi Chi herself is so, so lovely.

Tricia Leonard is actually a jazz singer, whose vintage store is more of a side project. The clothes span the decades, and Tricia also has a great selection of jewellery and handbags, if you happen to be looking for an accessory for your outfit.

Next door to Tricia Leonard is Cat with a Hat. I was very taken with a 1970s Romanian hand embroidered peasant blouse in Cat with a Hat. They also have a colourful collection of seventies platform shoes and lots of beautiful old dirndls. Cath found the loveliest sixties silk blouse here. Silvi, the owner, was more than happy to help and advise us.

M&M
Moni Hartmann and Maribel V. Farkas have a vintage store on the corner of Baaderstr. and Corneliusstr., with lots of designer accessories and dresses. The store is small, but full of vintage Michael Kors and Chanel handbags and Ray Ban sunglasses.
