Christmas in Munich

Christmas Gift Ideas – 2017

It’s that time of year again. I’ve received such positive feedback about previous years’ Christmas gift posts, so here’s an updated guide for 2017. Do check out last year’s guide too – I still love the stores I mentioned there. Happy shopping!

FOOD & DRINK

JB Kaffee
My favourite coffee. Johannes Bayer brews at Dachau, and it’s the coffee that they serve in Standl20. Buy online for ease, or pop into Standl20 and grab a Franzbrötchen and flat white while you’re at it.

MUN voucher
Because the way to the heart is through the stomach. And MUN is fabulous. And because it’s a gift for you too.

Broeding x Neues Maxim
Together with Neuhausen restaurant Broeding, Das Neue Maxim on Landshuter Allee is offering a food+movie voucher for 35 €. You get two courses, a glass of wine and water in Broeding between 6-7pm, and dessert (popcorn) is served when you go watch a movie at the cinema.

REST & RELAXATION

I love Yoga
One for your favourite yogi. This book lets you try out yoga classes in twelve different studios around the city. It’s also available for Berlin and Hamburg, if you want to send one up north, and it’s ideal for both beginners and the seasoned yogi.

monte mare
I know, I mention this all the time. But nothing beats a day gazing at the snow-topped mountains and occasionally dipping your feet into Tegernsee after a good sweat in the sauna.

AT HOME

TROY
Okay, I have received a hot water bottle as a Christmas gift before and – at first – wasn’t impressed. But actually, it is quite a romantic gift, and nothing beats cosy winter evenings on the sofa with tea and a decent hot water bottle. I love my TROY hot water bottle, and, best of all, they’re a local start-up – based in Gröbenzell.

MONOCLE Munich
Shameless self-promotion here. Earlier this year I contributed to MONOCLE’s Munich travel guide, and it’s full of the most beautiful photography and superb insider tips. Buy it for visiting family, or for yourself – to discover more of Munich.

Vianina posters
These colourful city posters add a nice touch to the home. For 40 €, a detailed, delightfully illustrated map of Munich is yours.

VINDUE
I wrote about this Westend gem here. I want all of their cushions, but particularly this Frida Kahlo inspired one.

WOMEN, MEN & KIDS

Concrete Jungle
I came across this store via an Instagram ad, and adore the colourful jewellery they have. Their site is a bit of a pain to navigate, but they have their jewellery on Selekkt too.

HEIMATFORMAT
This broach is too cute. And made in Munich. You can pick them up at Vindue (above) too.

Jimmy Lion socks
I’ve developed a bit of an (expensive) Jimmy Lion obsession. Their socks are so fun. Caribbean socks will help combat long Bavarian winters.

Schön, oder?
Kind of ridiculously expensive but ohsocute, I have bought my 2 year old these bed covers. Gorgeous gifts from a Munich label.

CULTURE

Wolf Alice at Ampere
London four-piece Wolf Alice are playing in Munich on January 10. Get tickets here.

Gengahr at Milla
If you can wait until April to redeem a Christmas gift, snap up tickets (16 € + fee) for Gengahr.

Alt-J at the Olympiahalle
On January 18, British trio Alt-J are playing the Olympiahalle. There are a few tickets still available for around 50 €.

Iron & Wine at Muffathalle
The gig I’m most excited about next year. I love Sam Beam’s music, and howled my way through his last Munich gig at the Kammerspiele. I can’t wait for him to return to play a (seated) concert at the Muffathalle on February 1. Tickets here.
