Kismet

A former bakery in Löwengrübe has been transformed into a Middle Eastern/oriental restaurant and bar. Kismet opened in mid-December, and I’m already a fan.

It’s run by old-hats on Munich’s gastro/party scene. Jisho Lang (Kong, Charlie), Sandra Forster (Roecklplatz, Charlie), Robert Lorenz (Crux), and Milen and Amédée Till (DJ duo Kill the Tills) run the show, and their experience is evident – the attention to detail is what makes the location so special.

All food on the menu is vegetarian, and the range of dishes means there’s something for everyone, all year round. When you’re after something hearty, they have tagines and spicy thali dishes (yep, they’re properly spicy, not German-tastebuds-spicy), and during the warmer summer months, you can snack on mezze and light salads. Continuing the former bakery’s tradition, they bake fresh flatbread on the premises.

After you’re done eating, head upstairs to the beautiful bar. They have the cosiest sofas next to the window, overlooking the police station in Löwengrübe, and I can highly recommend their Marrakech Mule – made with Hamburg’s Herbal Moscow fermented ginger and served in iced brass goblets. See what I mean about the attention to detail? They also do Ayurveda gin, jasmin-tea infused gin and sesame infused vodka. Though perhaps it’s best not to try them all in one sitting.
