Getting a table at Burger House is no easy task. Both of their restaurants are small and wildly popular, and reserving a table for four for a regular evening slot means planning at least a week in advance. They opened early 2012 and thanks to very positive press reviews and word of mouth recommendations, they’re doing very, very well.
Finally, my little burger group managed to get a table for a Tuesday night at their Max-Weber-Platz joint. We arrived just as the football kicked off – the place was packed with Bayern supporters enjoying a burger and a beer. Despite this, service was fast and friendly, and the waitress was happy to volunteer various veggie options for Annka.
I ordered a gorgonzola burger, Pete chose the Big West BBQ burger and Annka went for the veggie option, swapping basil sauce for guac. We all chose normal fries, which I kind of regret, as Sasha has since told me the sweet potato fries were incredible.
The burgers look small but pack a punch. The buns were the best buns I’ve had in Munich. No sesame seeds on top, but I liked that. Simple, homebaked, fresh and really, really delicious. The patty (made from local beef) was fantastic (cooked medium). Gorgonzola plentiful. Annka agreed that the bun was pretty delicious, and her falafel patty was well-spiced. There wasn’t much guac, but Annka was super impressed with the rest. All of us agreed that the fries were fine, but it’s perhaps worth splashing out on some hand cut or sweet potato fries for a real taste explosion.
All in all, I will boldly say that Burger House do Munich’s best burger. It was simple, but fresh and made with love.
