I’ve picked out a couple of hotels not so very far away from here to provide you with a little inspiration…

ALPEN GLÜCK HOTEL Kirchberger Hof, Tyrol, Austria

Alpen Glück Hotel - Kirchberger Hof

Nestled in the Kitzbühel Alps in Tyrol, the Alpen Glück Hotel is a four-star lodge designed with relaxation in mind. The snowboarding season may be over, but the Kitzbühel Alps are a hiker’s paradise. There are over 1,000km of trails in the area, with Alpine pastures and grassy mountains galore. If you’re a cyclist, the Kitzbühel Horn – the steepest road in Austria – presents you with quite a challenge. After a day of inhaling Austria’s fresh air, there’s no better way to soothe those aching muscles than in the modern hotel’s spa. Loosen up tired muscles in the panoramic light-flooded pool, or sit and breathe deeply in the sauna/steam bath.

Bachmair Weissach Hotel, Tegernsee, Germany

Sometimes, you just need to get out of the city to be able to recharge your batteries. Just an hour from Munich is the Bachmair Weissach Hotel – on Lake Tegernsee. The boutique hotel celebrates Bavarian flair, with a contemporary edge. I must say, I sometimes baulk at the way beautifully old farmhouses are renovated to become rather kitsch Bavarian boutique hotels, but the Bachmair Weissach (originally built in 1834) has done it right. They’ve retained the traditional charm and combined it effortlessly with modern interior fittings. The hotel also offers a cosy spa area – with a Finnish sauna, a pretty big (700 m2) pool, an Alpine hay bath and a herbal steam room. Treatments use organic Susanne Kaufmann products. It’s a high-end, exqusitite treat for a weekend away, and Tegernsee offers a plethora of Freizeit activities.

Hubertus Alpin Lodge

Or maybe you’d prefer to head abroad – or to the capital for a weekend of shopping, eating and partying. Or to the Pfalz to do some wine tasting. Or to the Ostsee to explore a new part of Germany.
