Emilo coffee: Glockenbachviertel

Emilo

I’d heard good things about Emilo‘s coffee from Davina at True & 12. She makes affogato with her artisan Madagascan bourbon vanilla ice cream combined with a shot of Emilo’s espresso, and it sounds so deliciously decadent, I have been dreaming of it ever since.

Emilo started roasting coffee in 2012 with a young and passionate team. They were the first Bavarian roasters to receive Naturland certification (in January 2013), and place a strong focus on sustainable and organic beans. Emilo roast their beans for around 12 minutes, whereas industrial roasting time can be as short as 90 seconds.

Emilo opened a cafe in the Glockenbachviertel in October 2013. Thanks to their home roasted coffee and Toni’s superb pastries, they’ve become pretty popular. I visited early one Saturday morning for a cappuccino and a very buttery cinnamon bun in the sun.

Emilo coffee MunichThey have a huge selection of coffee to take home with you, and I ended up going home with a Mexican Iguana and Emilo’s popular coffee No.2 as recommended to me by Toni, who then ground the beans for me there and then (and left me wandering around the Glockenbachviertel inhaling the most delicious aroma the rest of the day).

If you’re not in Munich, you can buy Emilo’s Munich-roasted coffee online, but I highly recommend you swing by Emilo’s cafe in the Buttermelchstr. next time you’re in town – Toni’s pastries are to die for.

Buttermelchstr. 5, 80469 Munich

Open 7am-6pm Monday to Friday, Saturdays 9am-6pm
