Viehhof 2017

Munich’s best beer garden and open-air cinema is re-opening next week. Bahnwärter Thiel has moved to the HFF in Schwabing, and for the past month, the Viehhof team has been busy lining up beer benches, installing the big screen and readying the bar – June 1 is opening night.

Viehhof will be showing This is Atomic Love on Thursday, an homage to Munich’s Atomic Cafe. It’s directed by PULS’ Heike Schuffenhauer, and appropriately Atomic music will accompany the evening – locals Elektrik Kezy Mezy are performing.

The full cinema program is available online, and films are shown Monday – Wednesday (weather permitting). I’m particularly looking forward to the Janis Joplin documentary Little Girl Blue, which will be shown in OV on Wednesday, June 7.

Besides the cinema, there are plenty of other cultural events lined up. Xavier Darcy (whom I interviewed here), is performing on June 17, and sixteen artists will be exhibiting their work this summer.

But by far the loveliest part of Viehhof is its beer garden. It’s the most relaxed place for an after-work beer or two, and Viehhof has organized falafel, crepes, and dishes from Donnerwirt to keep hunger at bay.
