Next Week in Munich – VINTY’s opening, Science Slam & Paul Weller

As summer heats up, it’s a little quieter this week in Munich, but there are still a few fun events planned for the week:

The week starts with the official opening of brand new vintage/second-hand store VINTY’S, close to Hackerbrücke (Landsberger Straße 14). They already have stores around Bavaria – in Augsburg, Passau, Nuremberg and Erlangen, and will open with snacks, drinks and an excellent selection of clothes at 11am on Monday. Pop by to snap up some superb vintage fashion!

Also on Monday, there’s a Science Slam on at Einstein Kultur. It’s a chance for scientists to take to the stage and talk about a topic for ten minutes – but as soon as the ten minutes are up, they have to wrap up. Great for those of us with low attention spans, looking to learn more about science! Tickets cost 7 € on the door.

On Thursday, the Pinakothek der Moderne is hosting a panel discussion focused on the exhibition Gegen Kunst. The discussion will deal with Nazi art, and whether such art can be exhibited in galleries today. Academics from around Germany, including the German art historian Christian Fuhrmeister, will be on hand to deal with the sensitive topic.

The Lange Nacht der Architektur celebrates Munich’s architecture on Friday. The full program is available to download here, but some of the highlights include the architecture photography exhibition at Graphisoft, and interior design presentations from einszu33, in Munich’s Schlachthofviertel. The closing party will take place in the Burger & Lobster Bank, and kicks off at 10:30pm.

If you’re in the mood to party on Friday, the LMU are hosting their annual summer festival. The rather garish program is available online, and bands such as The Capitols and Impala Ray will be performing. The festival starts at 8pm and will continue until 4am Saturday morning.

Schwabing’s Türkenstraße is the place to head to party at the weekend. The street festival will feature DJs and food, and will run from 2pm on Saturday until Sunday night.

And the one big gig of the week (besides Tollwood) – Paul Weller’s performing at the Technikum on Saturday. I still adore You Do Something To Me:

And Christopher Street Day rounds up the week, with Gay Pride starting on Sunday. The big street festival is next week – July 11, but the CSD has planned a whole host of activities to celebrate this coming week.
