Next week in Munich – Viehhof, Wannda Circus, World Cup

Hurrah for Bavaria, we have another four-day week this week! I’ll leave you to spend Monday at a lake, at the Freibad or hosting a BBQ in your back garden…

Tori Amos is at the Philharmonie on Tuesday. The eight-time Grammy nominated artist will be on stage from 8pm as part of her Unrepentant Geraldines world tour, which she kicked off in Ireland back in May. Tickets are still available – albeit super pricy – 66 € upwards. As it’s going to be 32 degrees on Tuesday, I imagine the gig won’t sell out, but if you do plan on going and need something to cool you down in advance, pop by True & 12 for an ice cream.

Somerset band Archie Bronson Outfit are at the Kranhalle on Wednesday. Tickets cost 15 € in advance, and they are a hugely energetic, fun bunch if you fancy a dance.

The Viehhof open-air cinema and beer garden opens on Wednesday. It’s my favourite beer garden in Munich – everyone’s laid-back, the films are good and they have regular, interesting art events. They’re showing the Dallas Buyer’s Club on Thursday, which I still haven’t got around to seeing, and I’m looking forward to catching it at the Viehhof.

The World Cup starts on Thursday – I’ll post a few of my tips on where to watch matches in the next few days, but if the weather holds and you’re after an open air “public viewing” experience, you can catch some matches at the Kino am Olympiasee.

If you are not one of the 40 million people to have already visited a Gunther von Hagens exhibition, the Körperwelten exhibition is back in the Olympiapark from Thursday onwards. I’m actually quite intruiged – from time to time there are lectures accompanying the exhibition, and a friend of mine told me he visited one on vampires, that was actually really fascinating. The lectures are listed here, and I’m keen on checking out Dr. Charlier’s talk on forensic examinations of past historical figures in July.

Black Sabbath are at Königsplatz on Friday. A friend gave me tickets to see them a couple of years ago at the Olympiahalle, and I was rather surprised to see how few people were there. The Wizard holds a special place in my heart, although I’m not sure I’d pay 78 € to see them.

The DaWanda Design Market is at the Zenith on Saturday and Sunday, should you be interested in buying a hand crafted piece of jewellery, or a new piece of furniture.

Should you fancy going out to dance on Saturday, Strom are putting on an evening of rockabilly, punk’n’roll and blues with Wreck Away Beach. The show starts at 9:30pm. And you can head back to Strom on Sunday to catch Philadelphia singer-songwriter Dave Hause.

Also on Saturday, the Wannda Circus returns. The one-day festival kicks off at 2pm and goes right through the night until 6am, with live performances from Kombinat 100 and The Glitz. Tickets cost just 14 € and are available (for over 18s) here.

If you’re not tired of festivals by Sunday morning, you can do it all over again at Hinterhof Open Air. Tickets cost just 10 € in advance.

Unfortunately I’m going to be missing all the festival fun next weekend – but I’m not too down in the dumps, for I’ll be sampling artisan wines a plenty at RAW Vienna.
