Next Week in Munich – TEDxMünchen, Konstantin Grcic & Kovacs

Alongside all the gigs and art this week, there are an awful lot of sales on:

From Monday through to Saturday, Soda Books are clearing out their stock room and selling books up to 75% cheaper than the RRP. Magazines are sold for 5 € per kilo, and you can pick up some gems if you get there early. And while we’re on the subject of stock clearances, Planet Sports are selling their wares for 50%-80% cheaper at WerkStadt Sendling from Thursday through to Saturday, and on Tuesday and Wednesday, Limango have a sale on in the Tonhalle.

On Monday, BOY are at the Muffathalle (again, their gig’s completely sold-out). I love their music, and am so sad I won’t make this gig!

The very first TEDxMünchen event is on Tuesday, at the Circus Krone. Hidden Treasures deals with the topic of secrets, and tickets are available for 89 € (yes, they’re pricy!) here.

Editors are at the Tonhalle on Thursday, promoting their fifth album In Dream, which was released in early October. It was self-produced, and has received generally favourable reviews – it’s a much darker, slower album than some of their previous stuff.

Sting’s daughter Eliot Sumner is also in town on Thursday, playing at Strom. A friend saw her last time she was in Munich (also at Strom?) and wasn’t too impressed, but if you’re a fan, tickets are available for 22 €.

There’s a new exhibition opening at Die Neue Sammlung on Thursday. Celebrating acclaimed industrial designer Konstantin Grcic, The Good, The Bad & The Ugly presents his work within the Paternoster Room of the Neue Sammlung.

On Friday, you can shop till you drop at the Midnightbazar night flea market at Postpalast, where there’ll be plenty of street food trucks to sustain you. It starts at 5pm and closes just before midnight, giving you plenty of time to shop and eat.

Also on Friday, Baltimore four-piece Lower Dens are playing at the Kranhalle. I really like their music, and they’re currently touring to promote their third, more pop-based album, Escape from Evil.

If you’d rather spend your Friday night in a more academic setting, the Amerikahaus is hosting an interesting seminar called “Masculinities in American Culture“. It covers a broad spectre of American culture, and sounds like a pretty fascinating discussion.

The week is rounded up nicely with smoky-voiced Kovacs, who’s playing at the Muffathalle. Tickets are still available for 30 €, and if you haven’t yet heard this song, prepare to fall in love:

And finally, from Sunday until the following Saturday, Munich’s annual FilmSchoolFest is taking place, celebrating the shorts of young, international filmmakers. I’ve a post coming up about it on Friday, but if you want to take a look at the program in advance, you’ll find it here.
