We’ve reached a bit of a Sommerloch. While this leaves time for lazy evenings at the Isar, open air cinema viewing in the Viehhof and the chance to try out lots of new bars and restaurants, this leaves me with little to write about. So, short and sweet, here’s what’s on next week in Munich:
On Tuesday, the HFF is showing shorts at the Viehhof Kino. I was there last year for the event and was hugely impressed by the breadth and quality of the films. They do tend to go on a while though – I think the screening finally wrapped up at 2am last year, so take a blanket to snuggle up in. The Viehhof is also showing a biography of Yves Saint Laurent, which sounds interesting:
On Friday and Saturday, WANNDA CIRCUS are hosting a free circus workshop close to the Allianz Arena in Fröttmanning. It’s completely free, and you can learn to juggle, master the diabolo and learn acrobatics. The event will close with WANNDA’s last flea market of the year. DJs and drinks will be on hand, and the market gets underway at 6pm.
And on Saturday, head down to the Flaucher to celebrate its 175 years. There’s all sorts planned for the day and it’s set to be an international affair, with music from the French German collective Swing Lyons, Cuban music from Son Compadre and percussion from Samba Sole Luna. The Sendlinger Kulturschmiede are also hosting a parallel exhibition celebrating the Flaucher, which will run until August 14.
Also on Saturday, the Sommerwiese Open Air is taking place, having been postponed by a week due to poor weather. Head down to Infanteriestr. 11a (home to BIRDIE) from 2pm, for electronic music, beers and a BBQ.
Or, if you fancy watching the Rocky Horror Picture Show in a location other than the Museum Lichtspiele, it’ll be showing at Westpark’s open-air cinema Kino, Mond & Sterne on Saturday night – in OV.
Should you be ready for Oktoberfest already, you can warm up at the Dachauer Volksfest, which starts this Saturday. I went for the first time a few years ago and really loved it – it was much less hectic compared to Oktoberfest and has more of a country fair atmosphere. Beach volleyball and football will be taking place on the Saturday, and the traditional dog race is planned for the Sunday.
A relaxed Sunday can be had courtesy of Sonntagsgefühl near the Englischer Garten. Entrance is free until 2pm and music will be supplied from Berlin’s Nico Stojan, Munich’s Paul & the Hungry Wolf, Sonntagsgefühle’s own MIR and Charlie & Kong’s Phil Kamp & Max Josef.
