Next week in Munich – Party im Provisorium

I’m running late with this piece – it’s actually this week in Munich. Without further ado, here goes:

The party of the week is a baby of mine – I’m hosting a party at Das Provisorium near Sendlinger Tor. It’s on Thursday, with two cool Munich DJs and the 5 € entrance fee will go to Camp VOICE (they’ve just re-done their website and it looks fantastic) – a charity in India, which educates and empowers under-privileged girls with a summer camp. You should come say hi!

Apart from that, we start the week with electro pop duo from Los Angeles LMFAO, perhaps most famous for their song Sexy and I Know It. Their sound is pure fun, and if it rocks your boat, you’d better have a ticket for their show tonight – it’s sold-out. Tongiht’s highly-anticipated gig is Skrillex’s show at the Zenith – the young Grammy nominee who lost out to Bon Iver at the Grammys earlier this month. I’m more of a Bon Iver kinda girl, but Skrillex’s sounds are interesting – and he is only 23.

British rapper Speech Debelle (2009 Mercury Prize winner) is also in Munich tonight, driving in from her Berlin show last night. She’ll be at Hansa 39, and in my opinion, her show will be the one to see tonight.

If you’re not partied out from the weekend, Schwabing’s Salon Irkutsk will be celebrating the painter, musician and owner of Salon Irkutsk / Das Provisorium, Wanja Belaja. It starts at 7pm, with entrance from 6pm. The film lasts just 45 minutes and it’s free. Oh, they also have great vodka in Salon Irkutsk too (hello horseradish vodka).

Tomorrow is a Brand New Day, with Sting playing to a sold-out audience in the Kesselhaus and on Wednesday, you can check out the Tune-Yards in 59:1. I only know their earliest stuff, but they’re doing pretty well, for a small band from Connecticut.

On Thursday, the only thing you should be doing is showing up at Das Provisorium from eight onwards – have I said this enough? If you fancy the opera beforehand, there are still tickets left for Madame Butterfly in the Staatsoper. On Friday, the Google-unfriendly band Boy are in town (you can search for Boy – a male human, you can search for Boy Band, but boy, is it hard to find the correct band – here’s their link, to help you out). They make good, old-fashioned pop songs, and it’s easy on the ears.

This Thursday sees the start of the new John Pawson exhibition in the Pinakothek der Moderne. The minimalist designer will be exhibiting until May, but if you are keen to check his work out before it gets warm, head down there at the weekend (hey, the weather’s still cold, it’s not as if you’ll be sunbathing by the Isar).

The weekend is full of concerts, but nothing that catches my eye. Snow Patrol are in Munich on Sunday, but I’m not a fan (if you are, they’re at the Zenith). On Saturday, I recommend you check out this event at the Glockenbachwerkstatt on Blumenstr.. As the event suggests, it’ll be an experimental evening with hip-hop mixed with electronica. And because the Glockenbachwerkstatt is a great place to have a beer anyway, you should check it out.

Also, in April, the Birmingham Royal Ballet are coming to visit. I thought I’d share this now because tickets went on sale last week, and will undoubtedly sell-out soon. They’re here for two days – 24th, 25th April and you can read more and buy tickets here.
