I don’t know about you, but I’ve already had more than my fair share of the Wiesn. I’ll probably head there one more time for a quiet Hendl and Radler with friends, but I’ve had enough dancing on benches for this year. I’ve also got a rather painful thumb sore, from where the Maß glasses have rested.
Luckily for me, there are more than enough other activities to enjoy this week in Munich.
Kate Nash is playing the Ampere on Monday, with support from The Tuts. Tickets are still available, and cost 23.70 €. The Tuts have been supporting Kate Nash on her recent UK tour, and they are a whole lot of fun:
Four-piece Aussie band San Cisco (formerly King George) are playing Strom on Tuesday. Their music is bubbly, playful, fun – perfect for a dance.
Also on Tuesday, post-rock Irish band God is an Astronaut are playing the Ampere, with tickets at 21.90 €. They are renowned for their spectacular live shows, where imagery is combined with the music to create an evening of audio-visual art.
On Wednesday, the Feierwerk premises are hosting a festival to raise awareness about deportation. It’s called “Rage against Abschiebung” (Abschiebung meaning deportation), and the money raised goes directly to help the Bayerischer Flüchtlingsrat support asylum seekers. Entrance costs 9.50 € and it all kicks off at seven in the evening, with a variety of bands, such as Trouble Orchestra (who have a bit of a God is an Astronaut vibe going on) and German hip-hop group Esther Bejarano and Microphone Mafia. There will also be four information points, where you can find out more about what it’s like to live as an asylum seeker in a camp. More information is available on the Facebook Events page, here.
The rest of the week is filled with Wiesn parties and Wiesn-avoidance parties. On Saturday, MGMT are in town, playing the Kesselhaus (one of my favourite venues in Munich, because it reminds me so much of British concert venues). Incredibly, tickets are still available!
