Blade Night is back on Monday, giving you the chance to rollerblade through the city safely – roads are closed for the event. The blading gets underway at 9pm, but head to Theresienhöhe from 7pm – there are lots of things planned to keep skaters busy.
Also on Monday, Manchester’s Slow Readers Club are playing at Milla. The show starts at 8pm and support comes from Munich alt pop duo Aggressive Swans.
On Tuesday, the Lenbachhaus is opening a new exhibition focusing on two 20th-century painters – Body Check. Maria Lassnig and Martin Kippenberger both painted the human body as self-explorations – ravaged, ill bodies that are introspective, obsessive and intimate. The vernissage will take place on the Monday (20th May) at 7pm.
And on Friday, the Kunstverein is opening a solo exhibition by Lisa Holzer. Esst Mich! focuses on side dishes and desserts, with desire as the main emotion. It sounds fascinating, and well worth going to the vernissage – I quote: “In a rather loving, motherly gesture at the opening, Holzer will mould with her warm hands, small, cute, and more and more soft vanilla and strawberry ice cream penises with balls.”
The Museum Brandhorst celebrates its tenth birthday on Thursday, which means you get in for free at the weekend – the 25th and 26th May. Forever Young is an exhibition of important works from the museum’s collection, comprising almost 200 works by 45 artists.
Ludwigstraße and Leopoldstraße will be closed to cars at the weekend, as Munich’s Streetlife Festival kicks off. With music, organic food stands and a focus on the environment, it’s a chance to eat well, chat with friends and learn more about how we can make Munich greener.
There’s a fun sounding kids event at Milla on Sunday – Berlin’s Muckemacker will be putting on an afternoon show for kids (3pm). Entrance costs €13 on the door and it’s a chance for kids to have fun at a gig.
And finally, Go Sing Choir is celebrating its two-year anniversary at Strom on Sunday – get there early to get a spot!
