Next Week in Munich – Chromatics, ARTMUC & Pixies

It’s a week of music this week, with plenty of gigs on to keep you entertained, whatever your tastes.

The excellent Alex Cameron is at Strom on Monday, with his “business partner” Roy Molloy. I love his new album Miami Memory, but 2017’s Forced Witness will always be a favourite of mine. If there’s one gig you check out this week, make this it.

On Tuesday, Pixies are playing a sold-out show (no surprise there) at Tonhalle, supported by Blood Red Shoes. I am bummed not to have tickets for this, but if you have them, have a wonderful time!

From Wednesday through to Sunday, the FOTODOKS exhibition is on at Lothringer 13 (more on that coming up this week). France is the visiting country this year, and it’s a fantastic chance to check out some of Europe’s best documentary photographers.

Portland’s Chromatics are at the Muffathalle on Thursday, promoting their new album, Closer to Grey, released on October 2. Pitchfork has given it a pretty good review – check it out live to make up your own mind.

Also on Thursday, the ARTMUC festival kicks off at the Isarforum in the Deutsches Museum. It’s Bavaria’s biggest festival for contemporary art, and the vernissage is behing held on Thursday from 7pm. Entrance to that costs 16 € including a welcome drink (if you want to be first to check out the art), otherwise entrance costs 13 €.

On Friday, Charlie Cunningham is at the Muffathalle. He’s not really my cup of tea, but I do know a lot of people who adore his voice. Tickets cost 30 € on the door, and get there early to snap them up.

And finally, on Saturday, the Long Night of Munich Museums is celebrating its twentieth anniversary with a comprehensive program of events.

Have a good week, folks!
