I’ve just returned to a wet and cold Munich after a week of glorious weather in Morocco. And while it looks like those Isar beer’n’barbecue evenings are a while off, there’s plenty of indoor action in Munich to keep idle hands busy.
Tomorrow, Me and My Drummer are playing in the Ampere. The gig was originally scheduled for Tuesday, so if you have tickets, make sure you’re at the venue tomorrow night. The Berlin duo are currently on tour promoting their second studio album Love is a Fridge, which is brilliant.
On Wednesday, Hamburg author (and comedian, musician, and all-round entertainer) Heinz Strunk is reading from his new novel Der Goldene Handschuh in the Kammerspiele. Named after a Hamburg dive bar, the novel is a seventies crime thriller, largely positively reviewed. Buy the last of the remaining tickets online for 15 €.
Nada Surf are coming back to Munich on Thursday, and are playing at the Muffathalle. This brings back memories of when I interviewed lovely Matthew Caws around seven or eight years ago, and we spent the whole afternoon drinking beer and talking about books.
Also on Thursday, Konstantin Wecker, the man who sang about Angela Merkel’s breasts, is in Munich playing at the Circus Krone. There aren’t many tickets left, and those that are cost around 40 €.
The weekend sees a couple of cool events in the city – the Stijl Designmarkt returns to Munich with over 100 young designers presenting their work. Entrance costs 5 €, and there will be plenty of scrumptious things to eat there too.
Let’s pray for good weather on Saturday so we can wander around Haidhausen, pick up an ice cream at True & 12 and saunter around the Haidhausen Hofflohmärkte.
And festival season is kicking off with the Make or Break Festival at the Feierwerk this weekend. From Friday to Sunday, you can check out a huge range of local and international bands at the festival – and best of all, it’s completely free.
