Next Week in Munich – Keno, Foxygen & The Slow Show

The week starts with a public holiday, which is always a good start to a week. Despite the miserable weather, there’s plenty to keep you busy in Munich in the last week of May.

Energetic band Arkells are playing at Strom on Tuesday, as part of a very intensive tour around Germany. They won the Canadian Juno Award for Group of the Year in March, and are a great live band. Tickets cost 13 € in advance.

Young Hertfordshire musician Rhodes is playing at the Ampere on Wednesday, promoting his latest single Close Your Eyes, released at the start of the month. He supported both London Grammar and Sam Smith on their 2014 tours, and he’s previously supported the likes of Laura Marling. Definitely one to watch. Tickets cost 19 € on the door.

Also on Wednesday, experimental Los Angeles bred duo Foxygen are at Strom. They recorded their last album …And Star Power at the Chateau Marmont and Beverley Hills Hotel, among other LA locations. Their sound drums up images of seventies California, and if that’s the kind of mood you’re in, head down there for 9:30pm.

On Thursday, Oanso are hosting a CD release party at Milla, supported by the excellent seven-piece Balkanauten. If you’re after fun music to dance to, this is the best gig of the week. The show starts at 9pm and tickets cost just 12 € on the door.

Moop Mama’s frontman Keno is playing at Milla on Friday. He’s recorded a solo album, which will be presented for the first time on Friday. Munich rapper Ebow is supporting, and DJ sets will follow. Tickets cost 15 € on the door.

Also on Friday, The Slow Show are playing at Strom. I’ll be publishing an interview with them this upcoming week, so stay tuned. The Manchester band’s lead singer Rob Goodwin has the most delicious husky voice.

Over the weekend, the sold-out Schall im Schilf is taking place at the lake by Garching, and as of Sunday, Filmtrip #003 is back. I’m very excited as to what this Filmtrip will bring – and will report back.
