Next Week in Munich – Food & Life, PULS & Ben Howard

The Christmas markets open this week, meaning it’s really time to start the Christmas shopping. Residenz kicks everything off on Monday, Tollwood opens on Tuesday, the Marienplatz and Medieval markets at Wittelsbacherplatz open Thursday, and the opening dates of all of Munich’s Christmas markets can be found here.

Oxford’s Glass Animals start the week off in Milla, supported by Wyoming. They released their debut album ZABA in June of this year, and are now touring Europe with it.

Klaxons are at Strom on Tuesday, with their latest studio album Love Frequency, released this past summer. They’ll be supported by the British electropop band Fenech Soler.

From Wednesday until Sunday, Food & Life will be taking place at the Messegelände. The focus is on high-quality produce, and alongside the stands, there will be a slow food market and an area especially for beers. Tickets are available for 11 € online, and the show will be open from 09:30am to 7pm daily. There are several seminars and workshops being held, all of which can be found here, and I’m particularly looking forward to the regular whisky tasting seminars, Walter König’s Bavarian cheese and beer pairing on Friday, and his craft beer seminar on Sunday.

On Friday, the MINI Story is opening in the BMW Welt. It’s a very British-themed exhibition, which will run for a good year, so there’s no real rush to head down there. The vernissage does sound fun though – The Rifles will be performing, there will be British hors d’oeuvres (cheese and pineapple sticks? Scotch eggs? Sausage rolls?) and a welcome drink is included in the ticket price. Tickets can be bought via amiando, here.

Ben Howard’s at the Zenith on Friday. London’s Jack Garratt will be supporting and tickets cost 40 € in advance and are available here. Howard’s just released I Forget Where We Were, which is brooding, melancholic and very, very beautiful.

On Saturday, 225 Liter are hosting a Christmas wine tasting session, and four vintners will be present, introducing their handcrafted wines. It starts at 4pm and costs just 5 €.

Charlie is hosting Edition Charlie on Saturday – celebrating the release of their limited edition book with work from artists such as Anna McCarthy (who’s also exhibiting at Platform until mid-December) and Markus Burke.

Did any of you manage to get tickets for the PULS festival on Saturday at the Rundfunk? The line-up’s pretty cool, with Ballet School, Son Lux and the amazing poet/playwright Kate Tempest. There will be a video stream available though, so if you don’t make it, you can sit in your pyjamas at home with a cup of tea and still enjoy it all.

And finally, on Saturday, Moop Mama are playing in the Muffathalle – but here too, the gig’s sold-out. I would have loved to have seen them, as they are so much fun.

Have a good week, folks!
