Next Week in Munich – Eivør , Open Westend & Art Garfunkel

There’s a good mix of gigs and art on this week in Munich – and the big news of the week is that True & 12 has reopened! Hurrah! Head down there for some excellent handmade ice cream.

The week starts with Finnish band Satellite Stories playing in the Kranhalle. Their music’s super catchy and they’re about to release their third album, recorded with producer Barny Barnicott (who’s also worked with the Arctic Monkeys and Editors). Tickets cost 15 € in advance.

One half of Simon & Garfunkel is at the Muffathalle on Tuesday, but if you don’t have tickets yet, you’re out of luck. Art Garfunkel will be performing with his trusty guitarist Tab Laven, and I can well imagine it’s a show worth the hefty ticket price.

Also on Tuesday, there’s a cool vernissage on at Das Provisorium. Featuring illustrations, photographs and graphic visuals from Munich design students, music will be provided by Never Ending Apple and DJ Nino el Dino.

Bilderbuch are playing a sold-out show at Strom on Thursday. The Austrian band are going from strength to strength since they released Maschin, and the show is sure to be a lot of fun.

Chiemgau’s Django 3000 are also playing a sold-out gig at the Muffathalle on Thursday,

If you’re after something that isn’t yet totally booked out on Thursday, there’s a film screening at Haus der Kunst. Louise Bourgeois: The Spider, the Mistress and the Tangerine by Marion Cajori and Amei Wallach focuses on an icon of feminism, Louise Bourgeois. Entrance is just 4 € and the film starts at 7pm.

Westend is celebrating its small ateliers and stores this weekend, with Open Westend. There will be concerts, performances, exhibitions and film screenings, as well as the chance to check out lots of small shops and cafes. On Saturday, Nachtkonsum XXL is on at the MVG Museum. The stalls will be joined by lots of food trucks from the likes of Napo Amo (great pizza!), Ringlers, and aptly, the Tram Cafe.

On Sunday, London-based band To Kill a King are playing at Strom. They’ve released their eponymous album in January and they’re currently mid-way through a European tour. Tickets cost 15 € plus fees. Go see them, they’re great.

Also on Sunday, the wonderful Eivør is at Einstein Kultur. I’m so looking forward to the gig, and Remember Me has been an Ohrwurm for the past couple of weeks. The show starts at eight and tickets are still available for 19 €.

And if you’re after some art this week, make sure you catch James Richards’ first public institutional survey show in Germany at the Kunstverein this week – the exhibition closes on Sunday.
