Happy Faschings week Munich!
Tuesday is Faschingsdienstag, which means most of Munich will be wearing fancy-dress, drinking a lot and eating lots of doughnuts. If you’re not a fan of Fasching, film.coop are offering an alternative at their Westend cinema – they’ll be celebrating director Alejandro Jodorowsky’s 86th birthday. Alongside a screening of his surreal film, The Holy Mountain, you can enjoy a slice of cake based on the movie. Entrance costs 7 € including a piece of cake, and the movie starts at 8:30pm.
Alt-J’s playing a sold-out gig at the Zenith on Tuesday. They’ll be supported by North London bands Gengahr and Wolf Alice, both of whom are touring Europe with Alt-J on this winter, and they’re both pretty good, so get there early.
There’s an after-work food market at the Amerika Haus on Thursday, with the likes of Chivito, Intolerante Isi, Isardogs and Grillin’ Me Softly dishing up hearty street food. Entrance is free!
It’s a Hardcore Night Vol. 5 is on at Unter Deck on Thursday, featuring German writer Timur Vermes and folk singer Philip Bradatsch. Vermes is most famous for his novel “Er ist wieder da”, the 2012 satirical tale of Hitler alive and well in 2011.
From Friday to Sunday, the Amerika Haus will present the Banff Mountain Film Festival (sponsored by Vaude and Primaloft). Several shorts will be shown (full program available here), and DamNation looks particularly good:
UK designer Brendan Dawes is at the Dog & Pony gallery (Neuhausen) on Sunday, showcasing his work. Head down there from 1pm to check out the exhibition and listen to a Q&A session with the artist himself.
Also on Sunday, North Carolina’s Sylvan Esso are at Milla. Tickets cost 16 € on the door, and if you’re after a new Ohrwurm, may I present Coffee:
