Theatron Musiksommer 2014

The world’s longest festival is back this Thursday! Running until August 25, the Theatron is a completely free festival that presents bands from across the world. Here are a few bands I recommend checking out over the course of the next month:

Thursday, July 31

Munich’s Express Brass Band are opening the festival on Thursday – and if you like them, you should most definitely check them out at the Theatron – they’re playing the Atomic on Friday, but their Theatron show is free, and has the Olympiasee as a stunning backdrop.

Saturday, August 16

The King of Cons, aka young Munich songwriter Franko van Lankeren, can normally be found singing for Talking Pets. His voice is delicate, his songs are melancholy, and the gig’s well worth checking out.

Sunday, August 17

Gabriel Miller Phillips is at the Theatron on August 17. His musical career began when he was 21 and bedridden. He couldn’t walk, and required several operations to straighten his leg bones. Two years of recuperation on the Massachussets coast meant Phillips had plenty of time to work on songwriting, and the result was his debut album. His music is melodic and gentle.

Tuesday, August 19

The young Munich band The Capitols could be a young, optimistic Brighton indie band. On the Flowerstreet label, the five-piece wrangle the blues into their modern indie beats.

Also taking to the stage as part of the Flowerstreet label’s musical evening is lovely Sarah Sophie, on at 8pm.

Friday, August 22

Born in 1995, making me feel incredibly old, Xavier D’Arcy is half-English, half-French and has the most beautiful voice.

Take a look at the full program to decide who you want to see when.
