I’m writing this on a windy day – the skies are grey, I have a cup of tea and I’m wearing a woolly jumper. It’s perfect gig weather. Here’s a round-up of Munich’s best concerts for the fall:
31 October
Multi-instrumentalist Cosmo Sheldrake is always worth seeing, for the entertainment factor alone. I saw him at the Feierwerk several years ago, and he is huge fun. He’s playing at Strom on Halloween, which is a wonderful way to avoid trick or treaters.
6 November
Israel Nash is an otherworldly, dreamy, very American singer songwriter. He’s been compared to Neil Young, and it’s easy to lose yourself in his music, imagining you’re at Woodstock with him. He’s playing at Strom on 6 November.
7 November
Darlingside are a Cambridge, USA, folk band heavy on harmonies. Which isn’t a bad thing. The four-piece are playing at the Orangehouse on the 7th and tickets can be bought for 15 € plus fees in advance. Here’s an exquisite Tiny Desk Concert:
14 November
White Denim are at Milla on 14 November. Their new album, Performance, is full of funk, seventies flashbacks and T-Rex inspirations. It’s a lot of fun, and the show sets to be a lively one.
14 November
Need Your Love’s Curtis Harding is at the Ampere on November 14th. His “slop’n’soul” style is the perfect antidote to cold, dark days. Tickets cost 31 € on the door.
21 November
Welshman and founder of the Super Furry Animals Gruff Rhys is in town on the 21st. He’s playing at Ampere (tickets 23 €). He’s promoting his new solo album Babelsberg, released on Rough Trade this summer.
27 November
Everyone’s favourite folk singer, Ben Howard, is at the Zenith at the end of November. Tickets are available for around 40 € and his new album, Noonday Dream, is gorgeous. Check out Nica Libres at Dusk:
28 November
Scotland’s We Were Promised Jetpacks released their first album in four years in September. It received very positive reviews, with Drowned in Sound describing it as “genuinely reflective and melancholic”. They’re playing at the Ampere for a very reasonable 24 €.
