Giveaway – 2 tickets for the Hidden Cameras at Milla

I mentioned The Hidden Cameras’ Milla show in my Next Week in Munich post last Sunday. Lovely Nadin from Munich & the Mountains posted an article about them toward the end of last year, and her post piqued my interest in the band – it had been years since I’d heard anything from them, but I am glad they’re back.

After a five-year hiatus, the Toronto troupe released their sixth studio album, Age, this week.

Joel Gibb’s self-proclaimed “gay church folk” group is no stranger to disarming frankness and eristic subject matters, as the band’s lyrics have demonstrated – Golden Streams is perhaps the most beautiful paean to being urinated on during sex in existence. The new album’s lyrics are as defiant as ever, the subject matter as coarse as ever.

The standout single Gay Goth Scene is an uncomfortable, troubling and emotional look at adolescence. The song has been a gig staple for a decade – but this version, featuring haunting, ethereal backing vocals from prolific Canadian singer-songwriter Mary Margaret O’Hara – has been released for the first time with a video that’s as hard-hitting as the song itself:

The rest of the album continues in a similar vein – strong songwriting lends the album it’s accomplished, powerful feel.

And yes, I’m giving away two tickets for The Hidden Cameras’ Milla show on Sunday night!

To win, just send an email to win@artsinmunich.com and I’ll let you know around midday on Sunday if you’re on the guestlist for the show.
