Bavarian Festivals 2015

Summer’s almost here and most organizers have announced their line-ups for this year’s festivals. Here are my pick of the best in Bavaria:

Rock im Park – June 5-7

The biggest festival in Bavaria takes place fairly early on in the season, over the first weekend of June. This year, Foo Fighters, Slipknot and The Prodigy are headlining, and there are dozens of smaller bands too. Weekend tickets have sold-out, but day tickets are still available for between 75 € and 85 €.

Im Grünen Festival – June 13

There are lots of excellent German bands lined up to play the Im Grünen Festival in Kirchanschöring (Traunstein). Fiva, Wanda and Monobo Son are all playing at the one-day event.

Soundfeel Festival – July 3-4

Munich’s Claire are headlining this small Bavarian festival on the Saturday, where they’ll be playing alongside Sound Organic Matter and Rainer von Vielen. Tickets for the two days cost 50 € including camping and a shuttle bus to the countryside location.

Puch Open Air – July 18

Puch’s a small festival in the middle of nowhere that always manages to bring in superb bands. This year, Schlachthofbronx will be at the festival, playing alongside longstanding punk band Die Goldenen Zitronen, Bavarian indie rockers Aloa Input, Pollyester, Trümmer and Animal Crackers vs. Monostars. Tickets are available here for a very respectable 25 € and kids under fourteen get in for free.

Prima Leben und Stereo – July 31 – August 1

Directly beside a lake and just a train ride away from Munich by the Weihenstephaner Berg is Prima Leben and Stereo, a lovely small festival that features local and international bands. The line-up for 2015 includes folk singer Impala Ray, hip-hop group Die Orsons and Berlin-based duo Booka Shade.

Agrat am Agatha – July 31 – August 2

Right next to the Agathasee, this festival is worth visiting as much for its setting as its bands. This year, Bavarian band Adaluscens will play alongside The Hirsch Effekt.

Taubertal Festival 2015 – August 6-9

There are a huge variety of bands planned for the Taubertal Festival this year in Rothenburg, including The Offspring, Funeral for a Friend, Beatsteaks and Olli Schulz. It’s a bit more rock-based than others, and the line-up’s not yet finalized, but keep checking back for more confirmed acts.

Stereowald – August 7-8

Celebrating its second year, the Stereowald festival has a great line-up for 2015. The Notwist will play, as will Wanda (they’re doing the festival circuit this summer), Impala Ray and Cosby (also at many festivals this year). Weekend tickets cost just 30 € and can be bought online here.

Chiemsee Summer – August 19-23

Bavaria’s second biggest festival is back in late August for five days of reggae, hip-hop, rock and electro. Deichkind and Kraftklub are headlining, but I’m more interested in some of the other acts: Shantel & Bucovina Club Orkestar, Gogol Bordello and The Gaslight Anthem. Tickets are available here for 169 € for five days including camping.

Are you planning on heading to any festivals this summer? Have I missed any good ones off the list? Do let me know!
