As part of Black History Month, the Amerikahaus is hosting an exhibition featuring works by American fine art photographer Joshua Rashaad McFadden. His work deals with what it means to be black in modern America. Last year, he released a book, Come to Selfhood, focused on young black men in the US today.
The title of his exhibition takes its name from the 1965 Selma to Montgomery marches.. The five-day march led by Martin Luther King, Jr., took thousands to the steps of the capitol in Montgomery, Alabama, campaigning for voting rights. Joshua Rashaad McFadden asks – “we marched from Selma, but fifty years later, where are we now?”
The vernissage is on Thursday, February 16 at 7pm in Barer Str. 19a (the Amerikhaus is still being renovated). The exhibition will run from February 17 – May 12, and is open during the week from 10am-5pm, on Wednesdays until 8pm. Entrance is free.
