Valentine’s Day 2014

It’s the evening of Thursday, February 13th and if you do Valentine’s and haven’t yet got a gift, you’re probably having a bit of a panic. Well, seeing as many of you are coming to my blog and are searching for things like “urgent Valentine’s gift” or “Valentine’s help” (I’ve exaggerated a little), I’ve made a little last-minute list of ideas for you.

monte mare

You may already know of my love affair with this sauna. monte mare, on the shores of Lake Tegernsee and at the foot of the Alps is the perfect place to spend a day relaxing. I don’t know a single person who wouldn’t squeal with delight at being whisked off to monte mare for a romantic day out, and you can choose the Valentine’s package here, including lunch and prosecco, at a far cheaper price than the regular package.

Therme Erding

Have you booked the day off with the vague but empty promise of a surprise day out? Look no further than the Therme Erding. They’re planning a day of romance, with several rose petal face mask and Aufguss sessions. It’s all a bit OTT, but the Therme Erding is big enough so you can avoid the kitsch events if it all gets too much.

Marais Soir

You can’t go far wrong with a fancy dinner. French hideaway Marais Soir in Munich’s Westend is the perfect restaurant for a fancy occasion. Think scallops, steaks and creme brulees. Good wines, knowledgable staff and a cosy, amorous setting.

Zugspitze & Edelweiss Garni

With the lack of snow this winter has provided, you’re going to have to get pretty high to get a decent amount of powder to ski on. As Germany’s highest mountain, the Zugspitze should do the trick. Spend your day skiing before spending a night in the four-star Hotel Edelweiss Garni in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. I’ve had a look and they have a couple of double rooms left for 129 € a night, including breakfast.

Schnaps’n’Roses – Valentin Stüberl

Where better a place to go on Valentine’s Day than the Valentin Stüberl? They’re hosting a schnaps’n’roses night, if you don’t take Valentine’s day all that seriously.

Mystical guided tour

Tomorrow night, you can take a romantic wander around Munich’s most mystical locations. Along with Munich-specific tales of love and lust, you can also find out more as to who this Valentine was, why hearts and roses are traditional symbols of romance and what this whole love thing is all about. It sounds a little esoteric, but also pretty good fun. Tickets cost 18 €.

Fondu for two in Roy

Everyone’s favourite schlager bar is hosting a fondu night from 6pm with a champagne reception. It’s mostly made up of meat, with ice-cream as dessert. Not for vegetarians, and Roy is not for the faint-hearted.

Palace concert and dinner

If you’re quick, you can snap up some of the remaining tickets for the Schloss Nymphenburg’s Valentine’s classical concert and dinner.

Pulp Fiction

If the weather plays ball, the Neues Rathaus, in collaboration with egoFM, will be hosting an outdoor showing of Pulp Fiction at 7:30pm. Wrap up warm!

So that’s it folks. If you’re still unsure of what to give and feel like a grand gesture is needed, why not take a look to see what the Urlaubspiraten have to offer? You can get cheap last minute holiday deals, and boy do we need the sun right now.
