New Year’s Eve in Munich

I think the last time I celebrated New Year’s Eve in a club was about a decade ago. I get frustrated at having to queue, I dislike paying thirty Euros to enter a club and paying ridiculous prices for drinks, before losing various drunken friends and then having to take a packed night bus home. I know this makes me sound like a grumpy old lady, but I’m much more at home with friends, a good bottle of wine and a half hour of sitting on the roof to watch the fireworks at midnight.

That said, I know many people enjoy a proper party at New Year, where they don’t need to prepare anything and aren’t faced with a barrage of empty bottles in the flat when they wake up with a hangover the next day. So for those of you wanting to head out and party, here’s a guide as to what’s on in Munich.

charlie

The Untergiesing club has gone for a minimalist introduction regarding their new year plans, but there will be music and excellent drinks. They’ve got the basics covered, at least.

KONG

KONG will be ringing in 2014 with the Familia Autonomica. It’s not my sort of music, but if you’re fancying a rave on the 31st, you’ll have a fantastic time:

Substanz

I did experience a post-NYE party in Substanz a few years ago. It was around 3am and I had stumbled into Substanz after a house party. It was fantastic. Unpretentious, loud and lots of music to dance to. Highly recommended.

Muffatwerk

German band OK Kid will be warming you up on December 31st at the Ampere, with their brand of German pop.

The party continues into the early hours with the likes of Panda Party.

EineWeltHaus

Munich’s EineWeltHaus are celebrating the nicest looking party on Tuesday, with a mix of Bollywood and oriental music. It sounds like a lovely, international party.

Tollwood

Tollwood draws to a close with a Silvesterparty on the Theresienwiese – and if you don’t fancy paying entrance, I can wholly recommend heading down to the Theresienwiese to watch the fireworks anyhow.

ROY

Should you want to ring in 2014 with Schlager music (and when we’re completely honest with ourselves, who wouldn’t want to do that?), ROY at Sendlinger Tor will be hosting a gala, no less.

And if all that fails, you can always sit at home with a bottle of bubbly and watch Dinner For One:

Happy New Year!
