Munich’s Filmmuseum is celebrating the best of Eastern Europe’s movie makers for eleven days in March. From 1-11 March, 2018, the film festival MITTEL PUNKT EUROPA is taking place. Movies cost just €5 to see (tickets available at the Filmmuseum) and there are some fantastic ones lined up.
I am particularly looking forward to seeing Slovak-Czech movie The Teacher, a tale of manipulation, which the New York Times reviewed last summer. It’s showing on Sunday, 11 March at 6:30pm.
The first film to be screened at the festival is The Last Family, which I am also dying to see. It’s a highly rated Polish film (check out this Guardian review) regaling the life of artist Zdzislaw Beksinski and his family – from their feuds to their funerals.
As part of the festival, on 8 March, Detroit-born, German-based musician Daniel Kahn and bandmate Bob Cohen will put on a concert in 404 Page Not Found, playing their take on klezmer music that has been described as akin to the “Yiddish Pogues”.
