Nana – Meze & Wine

I finally paid Nana a visit last week. I’d been meaning to go ever since Vivi posted some beautiful photos of their shakshuka, and was excited to try some fresh, authentic Israeli food.

Nana MünchenNana’s a cosy, informal cafe/restaurant in Haidhausen, opened by Jörg and David earlier this year. The shelves are lined with wines with hip labels (though there are sadly no Israeli wines), books on an alternative side to Munich, and plenty of plants. The turquoise walls brighten up a grey autumn day, and the bar is well stocked – they have Granit Bavarian gin to add to your tonic.

Their menu features a variety of freshly made hummus, shakshuka, salads, homemade cakes, along with daily specials and homemade lemonades.

Having had a hankering after shakshuka for weeks, I was so sad that it was out the afternoon I visited. Instead, I made up for it with meatballs with tomato sauce on a bulgur salad, which was fantastic. Dessert was a moist helping of chocolate and walnut cake, rounded off with a coffee.

Service is relaxed and friendly, and it’s a lovely spot to head to for a flavoursome, informal lunch/dinner. I cannot wait to go back and try their hummus and shakshuka.
