Eclipse Grill-Bar Munich

Eclipse Grill-Bar

I visited Schwabing’s Israeli restaurant Eclipse with friends recently, before we were locked in a room for an hour as part of an Escape Game (more about that in an upcoming post). They’ve been open since 2008, and have built up a reputation for serving great hummus and meat over the past few years.

The restaurant’s simply decorated – here, the focus is on the food, not the interior. The paper place mats look a little cheap and unnecessary, and the orange walls would be better left white and minimalistic. It’s homely, and definitely not fancy.

The menu is extensive, with five different types of (delicious) hummus to start, delicately marinated tapas and a whole host of tender kebabs – alongside less traditional Israeli dishes such as burgers with coleslaw and Caucasian specialities such as manti.

We ordered a mix of platters – from Eclipse’s famous hummus, to Israeli kebabs, a warming chicken soup, the American-style burger and the manti, and everything was fantastic. Oh, and I can wholly recommend their homemade lemonade.

I would definitely return – service was friendly and there’s an awful lot on the menu I’d still like to try. Their falafel is meant to be great too, but having fallen in love with Beirut Beirut‘s falafel, it’s going to take a lot to beat.
