Bald Neu

Today I met a friend for coffee at her favourite new cafe, Bald Neu, on Munich’s most summery street corner – the corner of Freibadstr. and Sommerstr., in Giesing.

Books adorn the cafe walls, and despite its youth (it’s been open since June), it has a quaint old cafe feel. A place where you can retreat from the world and pick up a good book, or meet a good friend for a drink. I had one of their specials – a Giasinger Eisberg – a shot of coffee, served with warm milk and ice cubes. A fancy iced coffee. And boy, was it good. Bald Neu knows their coffee.

Oh, and they do cakes. I had to pass on the cake (I’d eaten way too much lunch), but I’ve heard they’re pretty darn tasty. In the cabinet today was a blueberry cheesecake and a chocolate cake. I was desperate to try the chocolate cake – it looked perversely decadent, but maybe next time.

Bald Neu is simply a lovely little cafe, a nice place to while away a couple of hours and drink some very good coffee.

  1. I love discovering new cafes and will add this my list. I regularly meet a friend for coffee and we take turns choosing new cafes to try. It’s so much fun.
