After a summer break, I’m back.

My favourite Munich beer garden is also back – the Viehhof Kino in the Schlachthofviertel. Sadly, the opening night was rained upon, and the first film of the year – Pumping Ercan – at the open-air cinema was called-off. The film will be rescheduled though (the Viehhof planners remembered just how often it rained last summer, and there are days where no films are planned, so that those that were called off can be caught up with).

Pumping Ercan focuses on Ercan Demir, a body-builder who owns his own gym in the Dreimühlenviertel. The documentary follows his plight to become a world champion one last time, at the age of forty. The Viehhof Kino is also showing international movies, including French comedy Ziemlich Beste Freunde, The Artist and Hollywood’s big 2012 success The Hunger Games.

The Viehhof Kino is one of my favourite places to head to on a Munich summer’s evening. They offer a relaxed atmosphere, good beer (Pilsner Urquell and Ayinger) and from time to time nearby Substanz will get involved to provide DJs and parties.

To get there, simply take the U-Bahn to Poccistr. and walk along Rupperstr. until you see the Viehhof signs. The 152 bus will also drop you off right outside – Tumblingerstr.
