Next Week in Munich – Tallest Man on Earth, TOCA ME & Me and My Drummer

There are lots of laid-back, cosy winter gigs on in Munich this week. And then wham, Massive Attack round it all off in the Tonhalle.

The week starts with East London producer and hip-hop artist Jay Prince at the Rote Sonne. He’s just 22, yet his music harks back to old school hip-hop – his songs are wonderfully nostalgic. Tickets cost 15 € on the door, and the show starts at 8:30pm.

Tuesday sees the start of lots of indie folk this week. I’m particularly looking forward to The Tallest Man on Earth, who’s playing in the Muffathalle on Tuesday. I have loved almost everything the Swede has ever made, and tickets are just 33 €.

On Wednesday, Newcastle’s Lanterns on the Lake are playing at the Kranhalle. Their ambient songs make for a very chilled midweek night out.

Berlin-based, Tübingen-made duo Me and My Drummer are playing in the Ampere on Friday, celebrating the release of their album Love is a Fridge, which came out on Friday.

The annual TOCA ME design conference is on on Saturday, featuring the very wonderful Matt Lambert, who I interviewed ages ago for Electronic Beats. He’s come a long way since then, and is now making some very cool high fashion videos, such as this for Gucci:

If you haven’t yet got your ticket, there are some left – but at 119 €, which is steep when you see that super early bird tickets were pretty much half that.

On Friday night, Irish singer-songwriter Villagers are playing at Strom. They released Where Have You Been All My Life? in January, which has received a lot of positive reviews.

Catch synthpop duo Hurts at the Kesselhaus on Sunday, though I’m keen to see how many people head to the gig – their recent music has been overwhelmingly bland, and critics haven’t been all too kind to them.

Also on Sunday (and on Monday), the incredible Massive Attack are playing two shows in the Tonhalle. They’ve been sold-out for ages, but if you have a ticket, have a fantastic time.

If you’re keen to catch the Pinakothek der Moderne’s exhibition on Amelie von Wulffen, make sure you get down there by Sunday – the four month long exhibition draws to a close this weekend.
