Next Week in Munich – Paper Kites, SXTN & Gemma Ray

I’m back, at long last! I was away the entire summer, and let things with Arts in Munich lie low. But seeing as Oktoberfest has got underway and the city seems to be buzzing, it seemed as good a time as any to get stuck in.

Australia’s Paper Kites are playing at the Kranhalle on Monday. Their music is so wistful, and the most wonderful antidote to the Wiesn madness. They’ll be supported by Canadian folk singer Joshua Hyslop, who is well worth getting to the venue early for. Tickets cost just 20 € on the door.

Berlin rap duo SXTN are playing a sold-out show at crux on Tuesday. I know nothing about them, but the FAZ has written a piece about them that’s full of praise. If you’re going, have a great night.

Andrea Bocelli, Mary J Blige and Damon Albarn’s former backing singer ALA.NI is also in town on Tuesday, playing at Milla. Tickets cost 18 € in advance, and can be bought through München Ticket.

Author Lauren Groff is reading from her novel Fates and Furies at the Amerika Haus on Thursday. The New York Times gushingly described the book on a marriage as “a remarkable novel”, and described the author as a “writer of rare gifts”. Tickets cost just 7 €.

Munich photographer Verena Voetter is exhibiting at the Feierwerk from Friday onwards. The exhibition, titled GIRLS, does exactly what it says on the tin. The focus is women – portraits, fashion photography and beauty photography. Regensburg foursome Take Off Your Shirts (one of them looks like that guy from One Direction) will be providing the music.

Also on Friday, Gemma Ray and her beautiful voice are at Milla. Isn’t this just exquisite?

The weekend is quiet for culture, allowing you to get suitably merry at the Wiesn.

This week’s Spotify playlist is below, feel free to subscribe! Have a good week, folks.
