Next Week in Munich – Die Antwoord, Big City Lights, Schlachthofbronx

There’s another anti-PEGIDA march on Monday, and this time, Schlachthofbronx are coming to entertain the demonstrators.

On Wednesday, Die Antwoord are at the Zenith – their tour’s been getting some great reviews, so if you’re a fan, buy a ticket fast (30 €, here).

Splinters, a film documenting the rise of surfing in Papua New Guinea is showing at the Rio Filmpalast on Wednesday. The film looks fantastic, and I can think of nothing better to warm your cockles in January than a surf movie.

There’s a pretty cool event at the Pinakothek der Moderne this Thursday, called Snacking on Art | With Tom Vack. It’s a chance to meet artists, designers, curators and gallery owners over drinks and snacks, and simultaneously check out American photographer Tom Vack‘s latest exhibition – and meet the artist himself. Entrance costs 6 €, and the Pinakothek have suggested you bring a digital camera with you.

On Friday, Canadian indie-pop band Stars are at Strom. They released their seventh album, No One is Lost in October of last year, co-produced by The Stills’ Liam O’Neil, and are now touring Germany and Italy, before heading back to Canada in February.

From Friday until the end of January, the Gasteig are hosting a mini film festival focusing on Gaza. Condom Lead (Saturday, 8pm), a short nominated for the 2014 Cannes Film Festival, looks particularly good. It’s about a couple keen to have sex – but every time a bomb lands nearby, the baby starts to cry.

On Saturday, the annual Lange Nacht der Architektur is taking place, at over fifty locations in Munich. From the historicist Bayerischer Hof to the Murphy/Jahn designed Highlight Towers and Siemens’ new headquarters at Wittelsbacherplatz, there’s a real mix of building styles to take in over the course of the evening. The full program’s available here.

Music for Goals is on at the Muffathalle on Saturday – an evening of music dedicated to tolerance, respect and integration. Moop Mama’s Keno will play alongside Blumentopf’s Roger & Schu and Demograffics’ Maniac. Tickets are available here.

Also on Saturday, Big City Lights is taking place at the Postpalast. The venue will be used as both an exhibition space for video art and a space to party – from 8pm, 29-year-old French conductor Maxime Pascal will be taking to the stage with the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra, and after 10pm several DJs will be on hand to keep the party going. Tickets for the concert can be reserved online here.

And the Kammerspiele are hosting an event on Saturday called Kraut & Drastik, featuring a concert by musician Manuel Göttsching, most famous for his psychedelic/electronica work in Ashra, in the 1970s.

And finally, on Saturday night, the Einstein Kultur will be celebrating Munich’s literature – fifty young writers will be presenting their work across four rooms from 5:30pm until the early hours of Sunday morning. Entrance costs 10 €, and alongside the literature, there will be a couple of installations and DJ sessions.
