Next week in Munich – Yesterday Shop, Murena Murena, MUCA finissage

It seems international artists are taking an extended Christmas break this year – this week is again rather quiet in Munich.

Tuesday sees Parisian pop group Yalta Club in town, with their first gig as part of an extensive Germany-wide tour. They’ll be playing at Strom, tickets cost just 11 € on the door. They make super fun, catchy music.

Also heading over the border this week is Austrian group I-Wolf and the Chainreactions. They’ll be playing the Kranhalle and tickets cost 19 €. The band uses an interesting mix of instruments, with  Matthias Jakisic on the electric violin and Portuguese Eduardo Raon playing harp. Well worth a watch.

Berlin/Hamburg group Yesterday Shop are playing Milla on Friday, with support from Munich’s own Livy Pear. The singer’s voice reminds me of Thom Yorke, and the music’s just as melancholic and lovely:

Tickets cost 13 € on the door, and mostly because Livy Pear’s supporting, this is my gig of the week. They’re a fantastic duo, and Olivia has a superb (Joanna Newsom-esque) voice:

Also on Friday, the Flowerstreet label is at the Kranhalle – as they are every third Friday of the month. This time, they’re bringing three bands with them, my personal favourite is Berlin band Raketenkind. You decide how much the evening’s worth – entrance is based on donations only.

On Saturday, Murena Murena are playing Milla (Dizzy Errol, who I mentioned last week is a part of the Munich group). They’re releasing their LP Ghoaster Coaster on February 1, so head on down to Milla this week to check out the new tunes prior to the album release.

On Saturday, MUCA – Munich’s Urban and Contemporary Art gallery are hosting a finissage at 4pm for their recent urban art exhibition featuring the Herakut duo. More info is available here – maybe I’ll see you there! Let me know what your week involves, I do love hearing your plans!
