Next week in Munich – Maybeshewill, Ya-Ha!, René Gruau

The first full week of spring has arrived, but the air is still a little fresh. Wrap up well if you’re spending this weekend in a beer garden – on the other hand, you can stay warm indoors at the BMW Museum – Saturday sees the opening of an exhibition commemorating the Italian fashion illustrator René Gruau. Gruau produced some fantastic images over his long and prolific career – he worked for Vogue, Marie-Claire, Elle, he was hired by the wonderfully dramatic and elegant Pierre Balmain, the luxury designer Jacques Fath and the intricate Lanvin, to name but a few. Post-war French haute couture had a huge impact on the international fashion world, and Gruau was one of the key artists involved in the post-war French fashion world, and his flair helped make the designs stand out. He was a highly influential figure in fashion, and his illustratios will be displayed in the BMW Museum until the end of June 2012.

British instrumental band Maybeshewill are playing at the Ampere on Monday – if you’re quick, you’ve still got until tomorrow to win tickets. Comparisons have been drawn with Sigur Ros and their sound is electronic and alternative.

Melbourne’s Gypsy & The Cat have cancelled their Tuesday show in 59:1 due to logistical problems, which is a real shame, as I was rather looking forward to catching the dream-pop duo. Instead, you can check out a French duo instead – AaRON are playing at the Ampere and focus on electro-pop and synths. A perfectly acceptable alternative.

German swing musician Roger Cicero is playing at the Philharmonie on Tuesday – although if you don’t already have tickets, you’ll struggle to get some now – he’s pretty popular. And they weren’t cheap – the cheapest ticket was 46,20 €.

Wednesday is very quiet, but Thursday makes up for it. On Thursday and Friday, there are still a few tickets available for Steps & Times at the Bayerische Staatsballett. I saw the Kenneth MacMillan / Frederick Ashton piece late last year, and thoroughly enjoyed it. Tickets aren’t OTT expensive, and it’s a beautiful piece.

Thursday also sees Munich band YA-HA! play at the Ampere – they are super-fun and have just released their debut album. German prog-rock band Eloy are back – forty-three years after they first formed. If you love Pink Floyd and King Crimson, check them out. They’ve had a very long and successful career.

Everything I do, I do it for you’s Bryan Adams is playing the Olympiahalle on Friday. Who goes to these concerts? It’s sold-out and the cheapest ticket was 53 €. However, if you’re a fan and haven’t yet got a ticket, you can still buy an upgrade, which offers you a reserved parking space, a private bathroom area and a private cloakroom for those who buy the upgrade tickets. All for 99 €. Nuts.

Iamdynamite (name courtesy of Nietzsche) – another duo, this time from Detroit – are playing at the Atomic on Friday. They’re a fun rock’n’roll band, and Friday’s tip.

Saturday 31 March sees the annual Flowerstreet Festival – as ever in the Feierwerk. If you want to check out the latest, upcoming bands signed to the label and set to hit the big time, you can check them out. Entrance is usually under 10 € and you get to see several different indie bands at once. Kick off’s at 6pm, so make sure you grab some dinner beforehand!

If you like Lykke Li, check out Dillon at Hansa 39 on Sunday – a beautiful Brazilian with a tender, unique voice (often compared to Bjork).
