Next week in Munich – Prima Leben & Stereo, Superrave

Weekdays seem to be beautifully sunny and warm, when everyone’s hard at work in the office. Sure enough, Saturday comes around and the skies open, which on the plus side means we can catch a great deal of the Olympic Games. On the down side, we’re stuck indoors unable to drink the ice-cold beers we spent the week dreaming of.

Let’s cross our fingers for some better weather next weekend: the Prima Leben und Stereo festival is on Friday and Saturday. Tickets are already on sale, and as the festival’s been sold out for both days over the past few years, you really ought to buy your ticket asap. Acts this year include Berlin’s Bodi Bill – I absolutely adore this song, and they’re quite brilliant live; electro-punk band Frittenbude,  Young Chinese Dogs (also playing the Theatron) and Saturday headliners are another band appearing at Theatron this year, Fuck Art Let’s Dance.

If you are still ready to party on Sunday, head down to Backstage for some electro sounds at Superrave II. I was at the Santigold concert a couple of weeks ago at Backstage and spent a pleasant couple of hours enjoying a Feierabendbier or two in their beer garden. The Munich Art Series is also on at Backstage on Friday, starting at 8.30pm. Get down there a little early to enjoy the beer garden. Expect couture, modern ballet and film, all in one show.

Apart from a couple of gigs, it’s a rather quiet week – because it’s August, I suppose. I have just seen that the wonderful Chilly Gonzales is playing the Muffathalle on 21st November. A while to wait, but he’s such a talent, it’d be a shame to miss out on tickets.

Also this week, check out the Auer Dult market for pots, pans and other household goods – on until Sunday.

If the weather plays ball, the rest of the week can be spent enjoying Munich’s finest beer gardens and outdoor cinemas. I am still firmly in love with the Viehhof Kino, and caught the sold-out performance of Der Knochenmann (gruesome but rather amusing Austrian movie) there last week.
