On Monday, I recommend heading down to the loveliest beer garden in Munich – the Viehhof, to check out some shorts from Munich’s film school, the HFF. Six movies from film students will be shown, and the first one looks particularly interesting – Cambio de Aire, directed by Judith Westermann focuses on the invisible bonds between three different people in Buenos Aires – and their weekly sessions with their therapists.
Claudia Heindel’s directed a fantastic coming of age short, set in a Northern Irish town, which has already won dozens of prizes at film festivals. Titled Lucky Seven, it’s pretty hard-hitting, and beautifully shot. Oh, and it’s in English. Here’s the trailer:
The last film on the bill, Through the Lens of inkedKenny, is also an English-language film. inkedKenny’s a photographer in Montreal, who photographs beefy, muscular, homosexual men:
The shorts start playing at 9.30pm, after the sun’s gone down, and entrance costs 5 €.
On Wednesday, I’ll be celebrating in the bank holiday with a summer party hosted by Charlie at the Goldene Bar. Entrance is free and the party starts at 9pm. Head down early for a sundowner beer on the terrace overlooking the Englischer Garten. If you want to use your time super efficiently, you can check out the Paper Weight exhibition in the Haus der Kunst beforehand – focusing on how the magazine industry has developed and changed since the turn of the millenium. Curated by the editor of the architectural PIN-UP magazine, Felix Burrichter, the exhibition focuses on independent publishing, and how rather niche publications have managed to transcend their traditional topics to attract a wider audience.
Thursday’s a bank holiday, and there’s no better way to spend it than at a beer garden or at a lake. Pack a picnic and head out to the mountains, but make sure you’re back in time for the Kongress Bar‘s summer festival – they’re celebrating with a barbecue, cocktails and good music.
On Saturday, new wave band the B-52s are playing the Muffathalle. Yes, they’re most famous for Love Shack, Rolling Stone’s best single of 1989. Tickets aren’t cheap, at 37 € in advance, but if you’re after a little nostalgia, it’s sure to bring back memories. I’d avoid the support band though, a bizarre reggae band from Austria who were nominated to take part in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2011.
Oh, and if you’re looking for love on a Sunday night (personally, I’m quite content with Tatort), then you can head on down to the Parkcafe, where they’re hosting a speed dating event. For just under 20 €, you could find the love of your life!
