Next week in Munich – Drenge, Shrigley & Dark Horses

I’ve had a hard time finding events for you this week, Munich. Norway’s Highasakite have postponed their show until September, Jonas Schubert, OK Kid‘s singer, has gone and injured his knee, meaning their Strom concert has been postponed and Verdi’s La Traviata is at the Nationaltheater – but entirely sold-out.

So, this’ll be a streamlined, short and sweet version of “Next week in Munich”. Let’s go…

The week’s cultural events are packed into Tuesday.Derbyshire grunge duo Drenge are playing Strom on Tuesday. 2013 was a spectacular year for them, having supported the likes of the Rolling Stones and the Arctic Monkeys, and I’m pleased they’ve embarked on a European tour. Tickets cost 12 € plus booking fee, which is a darned good deal for such a good band.

Brighton outfit Dark Horses are at the Kranhalle on Tuesday, and their show is my gig of the week. A couple of other Brighton bands are also in town on Tuesday – Blood Red Shoes are playing at Backstage, with The Whyches supporting.

And finally on Tuesday, Denmark’s Reptile Youth will be at Hansa39. Tickets cost 16 € on the door, and they make wonderfully upbeat music.

And really, after Tuesday, the week’s over in terms of culture. The likes of the Amerika Haus and the Literaturhaus are on vacation over Easter, and it seems most international artists are too.

An exhibition featuring David Shrigley’s work got underway this past Friday (the vernissage was totally off my radar), and if you like his cartoon-style drawings, make sure you check them out at the Pinakothek der Moderne between now and August. I may head down to the Haus der Kunst this weekend – on Good Friday there’s an English-language tour of the Matthew Barney exhibition, costing just 2 €.
