Next Week in Munich – Hundreds, Swan Lake & Impala Ray

I’ve been really terrible at updating Arts in Munich recently. I’ve been sick, and have been so lethargic I couldn’t muster the energy listen to Serial for two weeks in a row, let alone think about writing anything.

Things are on the up though, just in time for Christmas. If you are wondering what to do with your Christmas week besides eat goose, drink Glühwein and take wintery strolls through the Englischer Garten, I have a few ideas lined up for you:

The week starts with a demonstration against Pegida, the anti-Islamist movement that began in Dresden, and is spreading across Germany. The demonstration will start at Max-Josef-Platz (in front of the Nationaltheater) at 6pm. More information can be found on the Facebook event.

On Monday, fun Hamburg electro-pop band Hundreds are at the Ampere. Tickets cost 22 € on the door, and they’re not very Christmassy at all, which is a nice antidote to all the Wham! and Mariah Carey you may have been listening to/forced to listen to recently. Eva Milner’s voice is dreamy:

Also on Monday, Impala Ray’s at Heppel & Ettlich. The folk musician willbe supported by sixteen-year-old Ella Joseline, and tickets cost 10 € on the door.

On Tuesday, Pardon Ms. Arden are playing at the Atomic. After several false finales, the Atomic does look set to close at the end of 2014, so this gig could really be the very last gig you’ll get to see at the Atomic. Perhaps. Tickets are 13 € on the door.

If you’re one of those rare people who have no plans for Christmas Day, there are still some tickets left for A Midsummer Night’s Dream at the Nationaltheater on the 25th.

On Saturday, Munich trio blek le roc are in the Ampere, as part of the final Munich Rocks! of the year. They’ll be releasing a brand new single, Punk Floyd, which is an upeat, rocky little number.

If you think Christmas isn’t Christmas without a trip to the theatre, then you could be in luck – there are still some tickets available for Strauss’ The Woman without a Shadow at the Nationaltheater on Saturday. Alas, there are only standing spots (10 € – but 4 hours of standing through the opera), or super expensive seats left (95 € upwards), but a trip to the opera is a treat during the Christmas break.

As a festive alternative, Swan Lake’s showing at the Prinzregententheater from Monday until December 28. Most tickets are sold out, but there are some available for the performances on December 26 and 28.
