Next week in Munich – The Dandy Warhols, Oper für Alle, MØ

How is it July already? Time is flying by this year. As it’s July, lots of bands are either at festivals or taking a break, so there’s not all that much going on this week. Here’s what I’ve rounded up:

Psychedelic music project Tame Impala are at the Theaterfabrik on Wednesday. If you’re thinking you’ve never heard of them, give the song below a listen. You have. They’ve also been nominated for a Grammy, and have won a bunch of Rolling Stone, ARIA and WAMI awards. Tickets cost 25 € online.

On Thursday, my current favourite Dane is in town. MØ‘s cover of the Spice Girls’ Say You’ll Be There is one of the most fun songs I’ve heard in ages, and I had her January single Don’t Wanna Dance on repeat for ages. She’s playing at nine in Hansa39 and tickets cost 20 € on the door – and she is wholeheartedly worth every cent. Oh, and she’s supported by Hamburg’s excellent Parasite Single.

Shantel’s at Tollwood on Thursday, for those of you who enjoy Balkan music. It’s actually the project of Stefan Hantel, who’s from Frankfurt – but is of Bukovina German descent. He’ll be supported by Django 3000, and tickets are available for 30 €.

On Friday, the radio station M94.5 is celebrating its birthday in the Muffatwerk, and you’re invited! Tickets cost 18.50 € and entrance is from 5pm (giving you an excellent reason to leave work early). Katie Smokers Wedding Party are playing alongside London band Dexters and Berlin’s Abby, helping the radio station dance into its nineteenth year. After the concerts, M94.5 DJs will take to the decks to throw an afterparty to remember.

If you fancy heading a little further afield, one of the most popular Waldfests – the Waldfest des SC Kreuth e.V. is taking place on Friday, in Kreuth (funnily enough), south of Tegernsee. It’s been taking place since 1938, and sounds like a whole lot of fun.

And if you fancy a little high culture on Saturday, the Bayerische Staatstheater are hosting “opera for all” on Friday – performing the works of Richard Strauss, who would have celebrated his 150th birthday this year.

If shopping’s more your thing and you need some new holiday clothes, head down to Nachtkonsum – for girls only – on Friday night at the Feierwerk complex.

On Saturday, the Portland band The Dandy Warhols are playing at the Ampere. Most famous for their 2001 anthem Bohemian Like You (largely thanks to that Vodafone ad), the band has been pretty busy in recent years. They released their first live album, recorded at Portland’s The Wonder Ballroom, in March of this year. Tickets cost 28 € on the door and the show starts early, at 7:30pm.
