Next Week in Munich – Champs, Moulettes & Hoodie Allen

The gig season is in full swing at the moment – there are so many concerts I want to go to! Here’s my pick for the week:

Vienna-based US electropop singer-songwriter James Hersey is playing at Strom on Tuesday. He’s been nominated for the FM4 Award before (which Wanda won this year), and he’s currently on a tour of Germany and Austria, before he heads to the US to tour with Milky Chance later in the month.

Long Island’s Hoodie Allen is performing at the Freiheizhalle on Wednesday. He released his first studio album People Keep Talking in October, and is currently touring Europe with it. Tickets cost 19 € plus fees.

On Thursday, there’s a fantastic gig featuring four American songwriters at the Ampere. The four women come from across North America – Kyrie Kristmanson’s from Ottowa, Ashia & Bison Rouge are from Portland, Rachelle Garniez is from NYC and Stephanie Nilles is from New Orleans. Tickets cost 23 € on the door.

The Frameworks Festival is taking place from Thursday to Saturday. I recommend checking out pianist Lambert on Saturday – his music is magical.

Isle of Wight brothers Champs are at Milla on Friday, and their song Vamala from their latest album is my current Ohrwurm. They released it just a couple of weeks ago, and it’s the loveliest, melodic folk-pop.

The Heldenmarkt is on over the weekend in Postpalast, celebrating the best of regional, sustainable products. There will be various talks over the weekend – the 2:30pm Sunday talk on Bavarian vegan cuisine sounds particularly interesting, and the green fashion shows will be good fun.

Sendling Boogie Breakz is on at Sunny Red on Saturday with Steril and Myriel, and if you’re not too hungover on Sunday, head to Strom to catch Moulettes. The Brighton folk band cite a wide range of influences – from Björk to Shostakovich, Pink Floyd and Skrillex. They released their (superb) latest album in January, and tickets for the show cost 17 € plus fees.

Have a great week!
