Theatron Musiksommer

The Theatron summer festival has started! If you’ve never been to a Theatron festival, it’s high time – it’s the world’s longest festival, running for 24 days in succession, and the free festival attracts an array of bands and music lovers – ranging from jazz, to hip-hop, to metal and everything in between. The setting’s not bad either – set against a backdrop of the Olympia lake, it’s the perfect place to bring your blanket and picnic basket to.

Check out the full program here, but here are a few selections of my own to whet your appetite:

Friday, August 9 – Coconami

Munich’s Japanese ukelele duo are playing! Nami, who trained as a singer in Japan, came to Munich to study music therapy. Here, she met Miyaji, an engineer training to be a baker, and together they started making music.

Sunday, August 11 – Like Time Flies & Naked Feen

I mentioned these lovely folk singers just the other day, and if you didn’t check them out at the free & easy festival, you can do so at the Theatron.

On the same day, melodic Naked Feen will also be taking to the stage:

They’re Munich’s band of the year 2013, and they do make the balmiest, most summery songs.

Wednesday, August 14 – Stray Colors

Flowerstreet Records’ Balkan offering Stray Colors are playing on Wednesday. However, still in keeping with Flowerstreet’s rock’n’roll feel, they remain very 60s. 60s Balkan, kinda.

Thursday, August 22 – Jesper Munk

The most hyped musician in Munich right now, Jesper Munk is Munich’s answer to Jamie Cullum. But cooler, younger and better looking.

Friday, August 23 – Antun Opic

I think Antun Opic might be my favourite choice for the Theatron. Beautiful songwriting.
